5/17/15 CH Anacacho Shamrock

The past two posts have featured Edna May's King and his son Anacacho Denmark.  This post looks at Edna May's King other famous son, Anacacho Shamrock.  After Edna May's King was sold to Anacacho Ranch of Spofford Texas in 1930, RW Morrison had a large breeding program going on the 40000 acre ranch.  One of the foals of 1932 was Anacacho Shamrock.  His dam Sally Cameron had been bred by Revel English and when he sold Edna May's King to Morrison, he also sold many of his good mares to him.  Sally Cameron (BHF) was a full sister to Hazel Simmons (BHF), the dam of Anacacho Princess (BHF).  This Hall of Fame Broodmare, dam of Beau Fortune and Beau Gallant, was also by Edna May's King, making CH Anacacho Shamrock and Anacacho Princess (BHF) full blood siblings.

Anacacho Shamrock changed hands a couple of times and was shown on the West Coast.  In 1937, he was sold back to Anacacho Ranch and continued to show.  In 1940, he won the five gaited stake at the golden Gate International Hose Show, and in doing so defeated Southern Twilight, a good mare owned by Frances Dodge.  In 1941, RW Morrison, the owner of Anacacho Ranch, decided to retire from the Saddle Horse business and was going to sell his horses.  Anacacho Shamrock sold to Dodge Stables on February 27, 1941.  He was soon bred to a number of the very good former show mares owned by Dodge Stables including Flirtation Walk, Sunday Swing, Etta Kett, Janet Sue and Glorious Star. His final year in the show ring was 1942, which was also the first year he sired colts for Dodge Stables who owned him for the rest of his life.  He died of colic in 1958 after a long and fruitful career at stud.   His most famous son also died at age 26, also of colic.
