1/30/16 Little Bo Peep BHF

January is lambing time for me, so there's little time to post anything, therefore, this is a quick snapshot of a mare near and dear to me, Little Bo Peep.  She was a good 3 gaited mare, even being a Reserve World's Champion as a junior horse.  She went on to produce a number of colts, most of them by Veiled Prophet, and they launched her into the Broodmare Hall of Fame.
Little Bo Peep BHF
Veiled Prophet was the sire of most of her offspring.
His sire Captain Courageous was out of Peavine's Pearl,
as was Little Bo Peep's sire.

Her pedigree paints a picture why she could perform, as well as produce.  Her sire Mountain Peavine was a grandson of the great Chester Dare, and his mother was the prolific Peavine's Pearl, a member of the BHF and dam of full siblings Anderson Rex, Captain Courageous, and Margie Louise.  On Little Bo Peep's dam's side she's even better.  First dam by Bourbon King, 2nd dam by Chester Dare, and 3rd dam by Rex McDonald.

Of Little Bo Peep's eleven offspring, those with show records putting her in the BHF were either geldings, or non-reproducing daughters.  However, she did have a number of daughters who did reproduce, and Little Bo Peep has some modern day offspring of note.  Whose at the end of the line?

  1. Thanks for your blog. As someone who's been away from the breed for a long time, reading about these 'old-timers' is a treat.
