8/15/20 Hall of Fame Broodmares - Let's look at Abie's Irish Rose BHF

The last post featured Kathryn Haines BHF, so this week looks at one of her three BHF daughters, Abie's Irish Rose.  Foaled in 1926, she became a World's Champion as a yearling.  Sired by the great breed building sire American Born, she produced nine offspring between 1937 and 1949 including two Hall of Fame Broodmares and a Reserve World's Grand Champion.  Abie's Irish Rose was also undefeated in broodmare and foal classes in which she participated.

Abie's Irish Rose BHF was also in the middle of a string of five Hall of Fame Broodmares, starting with her grand-dam Japanette, to her dam Kathryn Haines, to her daughter Rose Genius and granddaughter Sparkling Delight.  There is only one string of BHF's that is larger than five, and if you have read this blog for long, you know that one was anchored by Wild Wind.  This post, however, is about Abie's Irish Rose who was named after a play by the same name.  Her name was Abie, not Abby as one might think, since Abie Levy was the central character in the play.  Here are pictures of her most famous offspring.

WC Rose Genius BHF was sired by King's Genius.  She was a World's Champion as a weanling and yearling, then she went on to produce winners of her own.

CH RWC Ridgefields' Genius was sired by King's Genius.  He was Reserve World's Champion in the Stallion Stake behind the great Wing Commander in 1948 and 1949.  He sired many, many CHampions and show horses.

Abie's Genius was another breeding stallion out of Abie's Irish Rose and was sired by The Genius, a son of King's Genius, which made him a 3/4 brother to Ridgeields' Genius.

Abie's Baby BHF was sired by Beau Peavine.  She in turn produced two full brothers who were sired by Kalarama Colonel.  There is no photo of Abie's Baby.

WC CH Miss Dixie Rebel was sired by Beau Peavine

RWGC Chief of Texas was the last foal of Abie's Irish Rose.  This gelding was sired by Beau Yount, a son of Beau Peavine.   He began his show career as a five gaited horse, but switched divisions and became a Reserve World's Champion in Fine Harness.  I'm still looking for a picture of this good horse.

Here are some pictures of the subsequent generations, which included more champions, WC's, RWGC's and WGC's.  Abie's Irish Rose was bred to be a winner, and continued to produce winners.
