The last few weeks have looked at Hall of Fame Broodmare Kathryn Haines and her BHF daughters Abie's Irish Rose and Kate Haines. They have left a lasting legacy in the Saddlebred world. American Ace, sired by American Born, was a full brother to Abie's Irish Rose, and the best son of Kathryn Haines. What about his legacy? Was he an important stallion? The answer is an emphatic YES! Foaled in 1929, he was bred by I.H. Thurman of Kalarama Farm and later owned by Pennypack Farm in Pennsylvania, then Spindletop Farm from 1937 to 1941, and Maryland Farm from 1941 until his death in 1952. His 20 year career at stud produced numerous World's Champions and several good breeding sons. As many other Denmark stallions, his lasting contributions come from his daughter, of which there are many. As a result, the post on American Ace will be split into two parts.
First, let's look at some of the show horses he sired.
