7/26/16 More on Longview's Supreme and his son Titleist

Last week's post featured Longview's Supreme, a breeding son of Valley View Supreme.  Unlike some of Valley View Supreme's other sons, Longview's Supreme didn't get much opportunity at stud until he was older, and only averaged about 5 colts per year.  Despite this handicap, he sired many good show horses.  After completing the post, of course I stumbled across several more good offspring which are pictured here.  This week also looks at one of Longview's Supreme's best breeding sons, the beautiful Titleist.

CH Chat
Chat was also pictured in the previous post as a 3 gaited gelding.
Here he is in fine harness when he was still a stallion.

CH Cynthia's Party Punch
This mare was a World's Champion 5 gaited pony, and also a World's Champion
as a Ladies 5 Gaited horse.   Her dam was by Denmark's Rhythm King.

This WC 5gaited gelding also appeared in the last post, but this is a better picture.

One of Longview's Supreme's best offspring was Titleist.  He was a 4 time World's champion in the 5 gaited division, winning  the 3 year old class in 1978, Junior Stallion/Gelding class in 1979 and the 5 Gaited Stallion Stake in both 1980 and 1981. After his show days were over, he had a lengthy career at stud and sired some successful show horses.   Shown below are four nice pictures of  Titleist, and a couple of his CHampion offspring.

His dam was a granddaughter of CH Greenway Comander.
Ch Titleist Right Tonight
This gelding was a World's Champion  5 gaited Pleasure Horse
and was out of Peppermint Classic by Folly's Supreme Dream.

And then there is a horse named Too Much Titleist.  In his 3 generation pedigree, Titleist appeared 3 times.  His son Titleist Memory was this horses' double grandsire and also appearing on his pedigree was Titleist Dynamite, Titleist Cindarella and Titleist Forget Me Not.  No doubt about it, this horse was appropriately named!

7/10/16 Longview's Supreme

Longview's Supreme was sired by the great Valley View Supreme and out of  A Sheer Delight BHF.  He was a chestnut foal with no markings, and was born in 1960.  Always the inquisitve colt, he was good natured and friendly.  One trait got him into trouble and the second saved him.  An eye injury as a yearling took away all possibility of being shown, but with his strong pedigree, and great disposition, it was decided to breed him to some mares.  While his results were good, mare owners stayed away from Longview's Supreme.  There were other advertised stallions that drew more mares, so it wasn't until Lonview's Supreme was an older stallion in his late teens that he started getting the recognition he deserved.

6/5/16 Golden Firefly BHF and Princess Irene, a closer look

Golden Firefly had a post back in 2013, but she is such a fabulous mare that she deserves another look.  Foaled in 1911, she was bred by the Kelley Brothers of Bowling Green, Kentucky  and owned most of her life by John Crozer of Upland, PA.  Mr. Crozer also owned Kathryn Haines at one time, and was the breeder of Kate Haines and her daughter Kate Peavine, Spoonbill and Abie's Irish Rose.  The man had some nice horses!

Golden Firefly was a flashy chestnut mare with liberal white markings.  She was a crowd favorite and a regular winner.  In 1916, her trainer Sterling Nicoll rode and drove her to the RWGC in both the 5 Gaited and Fine Harness stakes at the World's Championship.  It took two horses, Richlieu King, a two time Stallion stake winner and Lady Beautiful, a five time WGC in Fine Harness, to beat her.
And once her show ring days were over, this great mare went on to make even greater contributions to the American Saddlebred breed.
A check of her pedigree shows three of her grandparents tracing directly to Denmark FS.  Her sire, Guided by Love, was another brightly marked horse.  He also sired stallions Kentucky Moonshine, Green Valley Fox, Love Chief and My Own Love.  His daughter Marjorie Beebe was 2nd dam of Judy O'Lee BHF.  Princess Irene only produced one registered foal, but that turned out to be Golden Firefly. Other than that, little was known about Princess Irene, but that's going to change right now. She was bred by W. R. Allen of Smiths Grove, Kentucky and registered by  Scott Isbell of Bowling Green, Kentucky.  The towns were just down the road from each other.  And it just so happens that a home in Bowling Green Kentucky contained a painting of a saddlebred mare and a copy of the application to register her.  The sorrel mare with stripe and left front leg, white to the elbow, was none other than Princess Irene.  Her owner, which could have been Scott Isbell, or later the Kelley Brothers, liked this mare enough to have a portrait painted.  The long time homeowner had no connection with Princess Irene, and it's unknown what the mare's  connection was with previous owners of the home.  It is just good fortune that her paperwork stayed with her painting, and with her very distinctive markings, there is no doubt of her identity.
