11/26/16 Wild Wind, her legacy Part 2

Last week's post looked at Wild Wind's pedigree, her 19 offspring, and her World Grand Champion descendants.  Week 2 will look at her life and her offspring more in depth.  Foaled in 1927, Wild Wind sold as a 4 year old to RG Jones of N. Middleton Kentucky, the brother of Allie Jones, who was the breeder of King's Genius.  RG Jones immediately bred Wild Wind to King's Genius, and she produced her first foal in 1932.  Her next two colts, both geldings, were sired by Royal Rex Bourbon, another son of Bourbon King.  For her next six colts, she was again bred to King's Genius.  During this period, Wild Wind was sold to her next owner, the firm of Stroop & Gallaher, in 1936.  Based in Dayton Ohio, their trainer in the early 1930's was none other than Earl Teater.  He selected Wild Wind for their breeding program, and it's interesting that years later, he selected two of Wild Wind's offspring for the show string of his new employer, Dodge Stables.  They were full sisters Front Page Lady and Front Cover, both by King's Genius.

In 1940, Stroop and Gallaher held a dispersal sale of their Bettydot Stables, and Wild Wind was heavily advertised as the jewel of their sale.  She sold with her 1940 foal, Front Cover, for the sale topping sum of $2750.  Wild Wind's final move was to James K. Robinson, Crebilly Farm in West Chester Pennsylvania.  There she was bred to the farm-owned stallions Sensation Rex and Beau Fortune, and one time to Nawbeek Farms' stallion Colonel Sport.  Nawbeek Farm was owned by William Robinson, brother to James K Robinson.

This post is going to look at those of her foals sired by King's Genius that bred on and some still have descendants out there today.  Three reside in my barn.

Front Page Lady, foaled 1932
She  was a World's Champion in the 5 Gaited division. Although she produced six foals of her own, only one bred on and her line appears to have died out.
