The American Saddlebred: 10/1/16 Callaway's Johnny Gillen, The Wing Commander Legacy Part 3

Callaway's Johnny Gillen was another colt sired by Wing Commander from his 1959 crop. He was out of Betty Weldon's former show mare, Fourth Estate by Kalarama Rex. Johnny Gillen was a pretty good show stallion, and when it was time to start breeding him, Mrs. Weldon matched him with another of her great show mares, WGC Kate Shriver. Although Johnny Gillen had a few other sons that sired offspring, for all intents and purposes, Will Shriver was the sole link that kept the chain of horses moving on to the next generation. Betty Weldon's hopes and dreams were pinned on the back of Will Shriver, and he didn't disappoint. CH Will Shriver, like his grandsire Wing Commander, was a World's 5 Gaited Grand Champion, and when retired to stud, he proved to be a great sire for the Callaway Hills' banner.
